About the blog

Do you feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day?  (you’re not alone)

Wish you could add a few more in there ?  Go ahead, raise your hand…(I did too!).

Until…..one day it dawned on me – there ARE enough hours in the day.

JUST enough to be exact.

I know, I know…….you can’t get it all done – me either.

You’re busy – working, and parenting, or volunteering, and helping, or ‘ing’  ‘ing’ ‘ing’. . . the list can go on and on forever. (don’t I know it! )
Regardless of all of that – we’ve got 24 hours. That’s it. And it’s not gonna change.

And seriously, if you feel tired now – what would you be like if there were 36 hours in a day?  I don’t know about you but my tongue would be hanging out and I’d be lying dead on the floor maybe.

Seriously, I think If given more time we’d just run more. To the point of total burnout (as if some of us aren’t already there)

Not good, not good!

So I got to thinking about valuing and sort of honoring the 24 hours each day that I have. I’m not perfect and won’t claim to be. I accomplish pretty much on a good day, but not every day is a good day.  I’m under a lot of pressure and so are a lot of other people I know. We’re beat up on by others ( hello media, hello ‘friends’ online……) and we beat up on ourselves for what we do and for what we don’t do.

The maddness HAS. TO. STOP.

“Just Enough Hours” is a judgement free zone. I hope we we can examine the messages we’re receiving (and sending) (and internalizing!), confront our ideas and cultural norms, and learn to stop judging ourselves and others.

I want this to be a place of encouragement. We need to make the most of the hours we have and that means getting rid of things that bog us down and make us feel icky.

About me

I’ve been a single Mom for over 25 years. I work a full time job outside the home – with a 40 min (one way) commute. I am a PT goldsmith/metalsmith (doxallo jewelry).

I have a couple of websites, volunteer on several committees/non-profits, own a single family home on almost 3/4 acre (yard work anyone?)……..I like to cook (A LOT) and paint and craft.  I imagine I like to hike and exercise but I don’t seem to have a lot of follow through so I’m beginning to question that.

I have a grown daughter and a son just entering high school. I also have two grandchildren ages 3 and 4.

We also have two chihuahuas.

Sometimes I feel on top of things and other times, well…….I don’t.

There will always be more dirty dishes, dog hair,  and dust in my world than I can keep up with.

and I’m ok with that.

  1. Hi Janice, have you ever made any men’s cuff links or sweater guards/clips/ I was at Panera Bread the other day and saw a man that I had not seen in over 20 years and we talked, he admired the necklace I had on and asked if I made men’s cuff links. I said No, but when I got home, thought, why not!! and also the sweater guards for women as I remember having them when I was a young woman. I will let you know how it turns out, but if you have any suggestions, please pass on to me.

  2. Hey Janice, me again. Decided not to make any chainmail, love leather and just found a really neat leather, bead and chain necklace and this will be what I will be making. I have made leather necklaces in the past and had good luck selling them.

  3. Hi Janice, hope you will remember me, I’m from Durham, NC and for years have wanted to attend your retreats, but never have (oh yes, I did organize my own jewelry retreat years ago and still making and selling (some) jewelry for 40 years. I love you on your forum and now love you on your blog and so happy that you are still around. I will be 81 years (young) in July and doing good health-wise. Just wanted to say hello and keep up the good work. Oh yes!! said this many times before, but your jewelry is really beautiful.

    • Of course I remember you!! It’s great to hear from you and I’m SO thankful you took the time to comment!!! Don’t be a stranger! And thank you for your continue encouragement on my jewelry efforts! It means a lot. 🙂

      • Janice, so happy you are still on the internet. I still want to meet you and so many times have thought about asking if I could just drop in to one of your retreats, since Durham isn’t too far from the retreat area and maybe before I get “to old” will be able to do it, that is if you are still having retreats. BTW, I saw some beautiful chainmaile jewelry online and thinking very seriously about trying it out (bracelets). What do you think?
